19.1 Design Breadcrumb

The Design Breadcrumb Navigation Bar appears horizontally on top of source code editors and Design Diagrams. It displays the path to the design element (module or entity) starting from the design top.

The design hierarchy path is automatically tracked by DVT, for example when navigating from the Design Hierarchy View to source code, when using hyperlinks, when generating diagrams and so on.

Editor: Click an instance to jump to design element definition.

Diagram: Click an instance to generate design element diagram.
Click the arrow to the side of a design element to see its child instances.

Filter the list of child instances using the quick search box.

A design element may have multiple instances with different paths in the design hierarchy.

Right click on an instance to jump to its definition.

IMPLEMENTATION NOTE: The breadcrumb navigation bar shows the path from the top element in the Design Hierarchy View.

Note: When you open a file from the Project Explorer or Compile Order views and the file contains multiple design elements, the breadcrumb navigation bar will show the path for the first design element declared in the file. A pop-up notifies you about this.
